The Budget Analyst, under direction, serves as a financial advisor to university leaders to support decision-making for their respective units, develops financial models, develops and maintains statistical models, and prepares projections, analyzes variances, and reports findings. Prepare reports and financial presentations. As a part of the Division of Finance & Administration, the budget team serves as a resource to all levels of management and entities within Tarleton State to develop financial plans that support and align with the strategic plan and goals of the institution. Serves as Campus Security Authority.
This is an in-office position located on Tarleton State’s main campus in Stephenville, TX with normal working hours Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm or as work requirements indicate.

Budget Development & Support
- Assist university departments with all components of the budget process.
- Prepare the Annual Budget and the Legislative Appropriation Request.
- Input, analyze, and coordinate budget information within the university’s financial software systems.
- Process personnel requests and evaluate impacts on the institution’s overall budget and financial position.
- Monitor and manage current-year budgets and actual expenditures.
- Research, assess, and resolve budget issues; provide recommendations and alternative solutions.
- Develop long-range financial forecasting models to support annual budgeting and executive decision-making.
- Analyze financial variances and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Prepare financial reports, presentations, letters, and other written communications.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to departments on budget-related matters.
- Identify problems, analyze root causes, propose solutions, and follow through to ensure resolution.
- Demonstrate accountability in actions and decisions.
- Respond constructively to feedback and coaching.
- Contribute to the development and tracking of performance measures.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field, preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or another related field.
- Three years of related experience
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Analytical and organizational skills with ability to work with large data sets.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Clear and articulate written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information to various audiences.
- Master’s Degree
- Experience in Higher Education/State Agency financial/Budgetary Activities
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Salary Range: The target base annual salary range is $59,370 up to $84,311 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
