• Crow Opera House, Downtown Photos, Historical Info

The Stephenville Chamber of Commerce is researching the history of their building at 187 W. Washington St. in Stephenville. From 1890 to 1917, the second floor of the building housed the Crow Opera House, which hosted theatrical events, piano recitals, garden shows, community meetings and Tarleton graduations, among other community activities. Imagine this - the Crow Opera House featured orchestra seating as well as gallery seating, and accommodated 600 people!

The downstairs of the building has been utilized since 1890 by a variety of businesses including the Erath County National Bank, Cage & Crow Bankers, Mayer Bros. Drug Co., Munger & Behring Hardware, Everett Fabrics, Joy’s Fabrics, Hickey Furniture and Appliances, and various professional offices in addition to the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce.

We are in search of photographs of the building and activities and people in and around the building. We are especially interested in photos from the heyday of Crow Opera House from 1890 to 1917. If you have photographs or memories you are willing to share, please complete this form or email images to chamber@stephenvilletexas.org.
