The Stephenville Police Department and Leadership Stephenville Class of 2023 invite you to visit their new soft interview room and learn about its impactful purpose.
Members of each Leadership Stephenville class are challenged to come up with and execute a project that has a positive impact on the community. The Class of 2023 chose to transform a room at the Stephenville Police Department to better serve victims of crime.
Compassion, safety, and comfort. Those are some words that can be used to describe what those who have experienced trauma or violence, perhaps, feel when entering into the new space.
Survivors of crime, domestic abuse, sexual assault and children in traumatic situations will now be able to be taken to what is called a “soft interview room” in order to get the appropriate help they need at such a time. This room features soft lighting, white noise and soft textiles, designed to create a warm and welcoming place for people during vulnerable moments, as opposed to more traditional police interview rooms.
Class members, including Laura Gambino, Executive Director for Cross Timbers Family Services, researched the best colors, sounds and decor to create a calm, comfortable and peaceful environment that is comfortable for survivors to meet with a variety of professionals. The class then raised funds, ordered furniture, had a painting day and put the finishing touches on the soft interview room that will also create a secure space for detectives to interview survivors and obtain the information they need to solve cases and provide closure to the victims.
