Killeen attorney Gregory Simmons, a member of Tarleton State University’s Class of 1986, is keynote speaker for the school’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 21.
This event will highlight the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the civil rights leader’s 90th birthday.
“We not only celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and vision on this day, but we rededicate ourselves to Tarleton’s core value of civility,” said President F. Dominic Dottavio. “Like Dr. King, at Tarleton we expect our words and deeds to be characterized by mutual respect, kindness and informed debate. It is in this spirit, that we invite our community to join us as we continue to work toward creating a just and equitable future for all.”
In addition to the keynote address, Tarleton’s Chamber Choir will perform three numbers and junior animal science major Jasmin Trevino will be honored for her acceptance into the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Undergraduate Fellows Program.
Simmons grew up in a military household and was serving at the Pentagon in the Office of the Army’s General Counsel when the World Trade Center was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.
