The Department of Fine Arts is proud to welcome to the Tarleton campus an 11-member instrumental band, the Mariachi Águilda de UNT. Their free concert takes place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 29, in the Auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.
Mariachi Águilda de UNT was founded in 2003. Under the direction of Jose Torres, they have performed throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Most mariachi bands have between four to nine members, so the UNT ensemble is larger than most. Instruments used by this group include violins, guitar, vihuela (a high-pitched guitar), guitarron (a deep-voiced guitar), and trumpets.
You may have heard top notch mariachi bands perform in San Antonio or in towns farther south to the border. But now is a chance for you to hear one of the best and most popular mariachi bands in north central Texas. Get caught up in the excitement and rhythms of old Mexico!
