Name: "Hairpieces" Exhibit by Rebecca Drolen OPENS
    Date: January 29, 2018
    Event Description:
The work of lens-based artist Rebecca Drolen—Hairpieces—goes on exhibit Monday, Jan. 29, at Tarleton State University’s Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery.

The free exhibition runs through Feb. 23 and explores the fickle relationship most people have with their hair. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

“I am intrigued by the rules that guide our ideas and self-image in relation to our tresses,” she said. “In the work, I use photography and the self-portrait as a medium to construct narratives that function both as visual puns and, at times, as social critique.”

Drolen’s work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions around the world, notably, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Texas Tech University, and the Theory of Clouds Gallery in Kobe, Japan.

Her photography has been published the Huffington Post and Hi-Fructose, and one piece is held in the permanent collection at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La.

Drolen received her MFA from Indiana University. She is an assistant professor of photography at the University of Arkansas.
