Tarleton
State University
Tarleton
State University serves as the educational and cultural center
of the Cross Timbers and surrounding areas and has been ranked
as one of the safest college campuses in Texas. The community
is invited to attend the many athletic activities, concerts,
plays, etc. offered. The university also has the only planetarium
in The Texas A&M University System and offers public shows

Founded
in 1899, the institution became a member of The Texas A&M
University System in 1917 and is the largest non-land grant
agriculture university in the U.S. More than 67 bachelors
degrees and 22 masters degrees are offered through five
academic colleges.
The University
is continually improving programs and facilities. The most
recent additions to campus include a $30.8 million science
building, complete with a 64-seat, digital planetarium and
a $6.1 million student-housing complex. Future improvements
are planned with the conclusion of an ambitious $40 million
capital campaign
Other
locations include Terrell School of Clinical Laboratory Sciences
in Fort Worth, Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center
in Granbury and TarletonCentral Texas in Killeen. This
fall, the W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas
will open at a site located near Thurber, just west of Fort
Worth on I-20. The research center, museum and visitors
center will be home to Tarletons first endowed chair.
