    Name: Tarleton Choir Concert
    Date: October 13, 2016
    Time: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM CDT
    Event Description:
Tarleton State University’s Choral Program presents its first concert of the fall semester, America: Music of History and Aspiration.

The choirs, under the direction of Dr. Troy Robertson, will perform music of the past, including fuging tunes by William Billings as well as new music that draws on and extends tradition. Among the newer selections, Kevin Memley’s setting of Emma Lazarus’s A New Colossus (“Give me your tired, your poor…”) is the centerpiece.

The choirs also will perform The Star Spangled Banner, Soon-Ah Will Be Done by William Dawson, and Jim Papoulis’s vibrant Sililiza, a piece meant to reflect the melting pot of America’s cities.

One set will include music of the Georgia Sea Islands, music made famous by Bessie Jones and Alan Lomax; and then again, decades later, by the Electric Dance Music artist Moby.

Performing ensembles include the Texan Gentlemen, Select Women’s Ensemble, Chamber Choir and Texan Troubadours. Senior music majors Maria Belknap and Krystal Smith will serve as student conductors.
