    Event Description:
    On June 25, 1877, Erath County Sheriff James Mastin was murdered while attempting to arrest a horse thief.  He has now lain in an unmarked grave in Stephenville West End Cemetery for 140 years.

    On June 25, 2017, he will be honored with a monument dedication ceremony on the east side of the Erath County Courthouse. We are honoring not only Sheriff Mastin, but also all the law enforcement officers in our great state for their dedication to keeping a safe place for all our citizens.
