Name: Tarleton Theatre Presents: "You Can't Take it With You"
    Date: September 27, 2016 - October 1, 2016
    Event Description:

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play, described by the New York Times as “one of the most persuasive works of pure escapism in Broadway history,” features a delightfully eccentric, free-spirited family. The local production is directed by Mark Holtorf, associate professor of fine arts.

Written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, “You Can’t Take it With You” premiered on Broadway in 1936 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama the following year. The play was adapted into a screenplay in 1938 and won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director (Frank Capra).

The play tells the story of the Sycamore family—a big, quirky collection of family and non-family members living blissfully in an old and elegant home. Daughter Alice has fallen in love with the boss’ son, and she reluctantly invites him to meet the “folks.” The hysterical complications that follow have made “You Can’t Take it With You” a comic staple of theater companies everywhere.
